Bemo staking fees
The published fee for Bemo liquid staking on The Open Network (TON) is 20% of staking rewards, divided equally between validators and the protocol. Network transaction costs and any applicable unstaking fees are separate.
Bemo application access is subject to age, jurisdiction and sanctions restrictions. Its Terms of Use, last updated May 24, 2024, require users to be at least 18 or the age of majority in their jurisdiction. Excluded jurisdictions include the United States, North Korea, Cuba, Iran and Syria.
How the reward fee is settled
GRAM is the native coin of the TON blockchain, and bmGRAM represents a share of Bemo's staking pool. Deposited principal is not the base for the 20% fee calculation.
| Settlement stage | Effect on staking rewards |
|---|---|
| Validation rewards received | Participating validators earn network rewards through validation rounds. These staking rewards form the base for the fee. |
| Automatic fee deduction | After each validation round, smart contracts calculate and deduct 20% of the staking rewards: 10% of gross rewards goes to validators and 10% goes to Bemo for protocol maintenance and development. |
| Net rewards added to the pool | The remaining 80% of those rewards joins the GRAM pool and increases the GRAM value represented by each bmGRAM. Costs from a holder's separate transactions are outside this reward split. |
Network and exit costs
Staking, unstaking and transfers on TON incur network fees. Bemo's terms also describe possible additional unstaking fees, with costs dependent on network conditions at the time of the transaction. They do not give a fixed amount that applies to every withdrawal. Transaction costs can materially reduce the return on a small stake.
Protocol unstaking has a documented cooldown of 36 to 72 hours, depending on the validation round's phase and duration. That waiting period is a timing condition, separate from the reward fee. Selling bmGRAM on a decentralized exchange (DEX) uses market pricing, which can differ from the protocol exchange rate as liquidity and market conditions change. A price discount can reduce sale proceeds independently of Bemo's reward fee.
Comparing yields after fees
A quoted APY needs a clear fee basis. If it already reflects Bemo's reward deduction, applying the same charge again would count it twice. Deposit and exit costs may still affect the realized return.
Compare yields for the same holding period and on the same gross or net basis. Then account for network costs on either exit route, any applicable protocol unstaking charge and the market quote for a DEX sale. The protocol's GRAM-per-bmGRAM exchange rate reflects pool rewards after the reward fee, while the amount received on exit also depends on transaction costs and, for a DEX sale, market pricing.
Questions and answers about Bemo staking fees
-
Does holding BMO guarantee a lower Bemo fee?
- The BMO token document describes a possible redistribution of protocol rewards to participants who stake TON's native coin and also stake BMO. It does not specify a fixed discount rate or guarantee a reduction to the standard 20% reward fee. Holding BMO alone is different from the additional BMO staking condition described in that document.
